Having just read a recent novella of Lucius Shepard's ("Halloweentown," in the October/November 2009 issue of
Fantasy and Science Fiction) and just this morning begun reading Hannu Rajaniemi's
The Quantum Thief, and also having memories of some less-pleasant aspects of Kim Stanley Robinson's climate change trilogy: I can report that the exotification of Asian women is alive and well in contemporary sf.
So alive and well, in fact, that it can be used in passing:
Her beauty had a fragile, almost Asian cast to it, you all know what I mean, right?...
(Looking over my examples, isn't it also nice what a international and intergenerational consensus it is?)
